خرمگس ، رماني است قديمي ،اما بسيار زيبا و خواندني كه نويسنده آن ،خانم اتل لیلیان وینیچ مي باشد. وي در خانوادهٔ جرج بول یکی از دانشمندان برجستهٔ انگلیسی در ۱۱ مه ۱۸۶۴ دیده به جهان گشود. پدرش پروفسور ریاضیات بود و مادرش دربارهٔ مسائل اجتماعی مقالاتی مینوشت.در مورد خانواده اتل لیلیان وینیچ جالب است بدانبد كه مرتفع ترین قلهٔ جهان ، در سلسله جبال هیمالیا ، به نام جرجی اورست ( عموی مادر او كه جغرافیدان مشهوری بود ) نام گرفته است . نام رمان خرمگس به انگليسي ، The Gadfly است . اين داستان زيبا ، در كشورمان 2 بار توسط آقايان خسرو همایونپور و داریوش شاهین به فارسي ترجمه شده است نسخه اي كه در اينجا براي تان قرار داديم ترجمه آقاي خسرو همایونپور مي باشد . این کتاب در سال ۱۸۹۷ در انگلستان و آمریکا منتشر شد. وینیچ در این کتاب سیمای انسانهایی را مجسم کردهاست که برای کسب آزادی, استقلال و حقوق اجتماعی خود دست به مبارزه میزنند و در این راه از مرگ نیز هراسی ندارند. «عشق» در این کتاب مقامی ارجمند دارد.نقش اصلی این کتاب آرتور برتن است که یک انگلیسی مقیم در ایتالیا در زمان سلطهٔ اطریشی ها بر این کشور است، او پس از شکست عشقی خود دست به یک ماجراجویی بزرگ میزند و بعدها دوباره به ایتالیا بازمیگردد و در یک گروه انقلابی به کار مشغول میشود. نقاشي را كه بر روي جلد كتاب خرمگش در تصوير مي بينيد ، معروفترین اثر نقاش بزرگ اسپانيايي ، فرانسیسکو گویا است . در این اثر، تیرباران خونبار شهروندان مادریدی توسط سربازان امپراطوری فرانسه در خلال سالهای اشغال اسپانیا به دست ناپلئون به تصویر کشیده شدهاست. این نقاشي را به جرات میتوان اولین نگاره به معنای واقعی کلمه انقلابی نامید. تحولی که در موضوع کار، سبک و نوع نورپردازی به وضوح قابل مشاهدهاست، سالها بعد در کارهای استادانی نظیر ادوار مانه و پابلو پیکاسو تکرار میشود. كتابي كه در اينجا براي تان قرار داديم ،كم حجم ترين نسخه از اين رمان در وب است كه براي اولين بار توسط سايت آريانا ايبوك تهيه شده است .
